Frank and Pauline Patterson Spring Colloquy 2020

Eldridge, Daryl 2019

IRVING, Texas (April 29, 2020) — B.H. Carroll Theological Institute’s Frank and Pauline Patterson Spring Colloquy, the annual calling together of its students and faculty for theological discussion and PhD presentations, will take place as planned—but with a twist—May 18-20.

All of the sessions will be conducted via the Zoom video conferencing app, with Dr. Daryl Eldridge, president of Rockbridge Seminary, as the keynote speaker. The adjustment in format was prompted by the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines.

The Colloquy will feature Eldridge’s lectures on discipleship in the 21st century, breakout sessions, and more.

“These are interesting days, indeed,” said B.H. Carroll President Dr. Gene Wilkes. “However, thanks to the gift of technology, Carroll has been able to maintain its forward progress in planning this gathering. It will be unlike any Colloquy we’ve had in the past, but after nearly three months of social distancing and communicating through Zoom, we know this medium can bridge the gaps in this ministry. And Dr. Eldridge has always been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to teaching others about his passion for discipleship and educational ministries.”

Eldridge was a cofounder of Rockbridge and has served as its president since 2003. Previously, he was dean of the School of Educational Ministries at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drury University, a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Seminary, and a Doctor of Philosophy, also from Southwestern Seminary.

Eldridge’s book, The Teaching Ministry of the Church, has served as a foundational resource in the field of educational ministries since its publication in 1995. In addition to his numerous contributions to books in the field of religious education, he has written extensively on the subjects of church growth and discipleship for Lifeway. He also served as associate editor Baker Academic’s Evangelical Dictionary of Christian Education

In addition to his experiences in the academy, Eldridge has served as a minister of education and spiritual development in seven churches in Texas and Missouri.

Wilkes said Carroll has elected to forego registration fees since no one will be traveling to the Institute in Irving. Attendees, however, will still need to download the Zoom app and register in order to participate.
