DFW Alumni Gathering

The first gathering of the B. H. Carroll DFW Area Alumni Association was held Thursday, October 10, at the Carroll Hub in Arlington, TX. Twenty nine alumni, family, friends and Carroll staff gathered for fellowship and connecting with one another. Old friendships were re-kindled and new ones were made.

Kevin Boyd (MAT, ‘12) led the inaugural gathering. He shared about his experience at Carroll and what the school meant to him and his ministry. Dr. Bruce Corley, President of BHCTI, followed Kevin with a talk about the many ways Carroll is equipping men and women to serve Christ and His church here and around the world. The group listened to video testimonies from three Carroll alumni: Kirk Gentzel (MAR, ‘11), Mark Carroll (MDIV, ‘11) and Dr. Bill Bryan (PHD, ‘11) who also serves as a Resident Fellow and recently taught for Carroll in Russia. ( See the article about his trip here. ) Deana Adams (PHD, ‘12) shared her Carroll story via PowerPoint to the tune “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.” You had to have been there!

Scott Shiffer (PhD candidate) described the purpose of an alumni association and how the members could work together to promote Carroll Institute. Scott will be calling upon alumni to help create a formal organization in the near future with officers, objectives, and an alumni newsletter to keep everyone connected and informed. He mentioned the possibilities of an Outstanding Alumni Award and a scholarship funded by our alumni. More information about the Association will follow in future articles.

Dr. Gene Wilkes, VP for Advancement, presented ways in which alumni can support Carroll through local church missions giving through ConNEXtions, a scholarship program that supports the training of global indigenous church leaders ( Help us with our current training efforts in Cuba ). He closed by offering to share the audiovisual presentation with alumni where they live and serve. He added that if anyone wanted to host an alumni gathering where they served, he would be happy to come and be part of the gathering. Dr. Wilkes closed in prayer, and the group lingered to visit.

B. H. Carroll has now hosted two alumni gatherings, one in Houston and one in the DFW area. If you would like to host a gathering, please contact either Nancy Muskrat or Gene Wilkes, and they will help facilitate the event.
