Second Carroll Counseling Graduate Passes National Counselor Exam

Jennie Bower Kologe, 2013 graduate with an MA in Counseling from BHCTI, recently passed the National Counselor Examination for licensure. Jennie is the second counseling graduate to pass this barrier exam that leads to approval for internship status as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Jennie began her studies at another institution which closed its licensure program during her first semester there. Jennie comments,

I began praying and thinking through options. Dr. Layne Falkenburg had been a professor and mentor of mine and spoke highly of Dr. Floyd and the program at B. H. Carroll, so I ended up reaching out to Dr. Floyd. About 10,000 questions later, Dr. Floyd had satiated my endless questioning, and I came on board in the Spring of 2011. From the start I felt challenged and proud to be a part of what was happening here at Carroll.

Mrs. Kologe is very enthusiastic as she talks about the counseling program at Carroll Institute.

Dr. Floyd has built a team and a program that honors the Lord in its care for every student and that equips Christians well for the counseling profession. B. H. Carroll’s over-arching vision to raise up Christian leaders in grassroots movements allows the counseling program to do the same in the psychology profession — to come alongside what God is already doing and to equip leaders to further the Gospel there.

At the present, Jennie is working to finish extra internship hours based on the LPC and the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) board requirements in North Carolina. She leads a Divorce Care for Kids group at Faith Christian School in Grapevine, volunteers as an advocate for women facing unplanned pregnancies at the Dallas Pregnancy Resource Center, and sees clients at Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

I’m not quite sure what my future in counseling holds, but if my experience has taught me anything so far, it is that counselors need to be endlessly flexible and creative in the ways they find to serve in the profession. I have no doubts, though, that Dr. Floyd and the B. H. Carroll family walk behind me as I go forward to the unknown!
