Carroll Institute Welcomes New Administrative Faculty Member

Carroll Institute has recently welcomed a new member to its administrative faculty. Dr. Joseph Cathey has been named as Fellow in Scripture and Witness and Associate Professor of Biblical languages and literature. He will also serve as Assistant Registrar.

Joe Cathey completed his B.A. at Ouachita Baptist University, Arkadelphia, with a major in History and Political Science. He earned the Master of Divinity in Biblical Languages and Doctor of Philosophy in Old Testament/Archaeology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He has done post-doctoral studies in library science at the University of North Texas as well as studies in archaeology at the University of Leicester in Leicester, England.

Dr. Cathey and his wife spent six years in East Africa as missionaries. After graduating with his Ph.D., he served as an Assistant Professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, teaching courses in Greek, Hebrew and Old Testament. He also taught courses in Old Testament at Southwestern’s Shawnee, Oklahoma campus. In 2000, he was a guest professor at the International Theological Seminary in Arusha, Tanzania, Africa, and from 2002 until coming to Carroll Institute, he served as Adjunct Professor at Dallas Baptist University.

Joe has had many years of pastoral ministry. Prior to coming to Carroll Institute, Dr. Cathey was Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church, Godley, Texas.

Some of Dr. Cathey’s professional memberships include the Society of Biblical Literature, National Association of Professors of Hebrew, Institute for Biblical Research, National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion, the American Schools of Oriental Research, Israel Exploration Society, and The Canadian Society for Mesopotamian Studies.

Joe Cathey has contributed several articles to the Biblical Illustrator, the Journal of Biblical Literature, and the Broadman Holman Bible Dictionary as well as the New Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible. He is a regular reviewer for both Society of Biblical Literature and Review of Biblical Literature. Dr. Cathey has also served as a technical writer for Biblical Illustrator and content writer for Bible Studies for Life at LifeWay Christian Resources.
