For everything there is a season,
the Scriptures remind us, and we know the Lord creates and ends such seasons to further his mission of reconciliation until Christ returns. The retirement of Dr. Bruce Muskrat to pursue his calling of music ministry and the move of Dr. Norma Hedin to Dallas Baptist University mark a season of God’s favor upon B. H. Carroll.
Dr. Bruce Muskrat came to Carroll in 2006 when Nancy and he left the mission field of Argentina. His missionary heart and habits contributed to the pioneering spirit and work of B. H. Carroll during its infancy. Like all of the founding members of the school, Bruce did whatever it took to equip men and women called to serve Christ in its diverse and global ministries of his church.
While his primary work was as Director of Business Affairs and Bursar, he ‘kept the books,’ taught, built, installed, and a myriad of other tasks to keep the seminary moving forward under the Lord’s leadership. We honored Bruce at our Convocation, which you can view here. He ends a season of service with us, but he begins a new season of using his gifts in worship and music ministry. If you would like to send him an email, write him at bmuskrat@bhcarroll.edu.
Dr. Norma Hedin came to Carroll in 2007 as a Fellow in our Ministry and Formation Cluster. She, too, stepped into a season of growth as Carroll expanded its reach and influence. In 2014 she became a Senior Fellow of the Institute, following Dr. Budd Smith at his retirement, as the leader of the Ministry and Formation Cluster. She has served as the Chair of the Master’s Program Council and Professor of Foundations of Education and has taught at the doctoral level and supervised numerous doctoral candidates. Norma exemplifies quality, graduate, theological education and is deeply respected in her field. She will begin her new season of growth as Vice President of Executive Affairs with Dallas Baptist University beginning July 1. DBU has gained a humble servant leader, and since we trust the Lord has led her there, we trust the Lord will lead the next servant leader to us for our next season of growth. If you would like to email her, write her at nhedin@bhcarroll.edu.
I am grateful to both of these Christian educators and co-workers for ALL they have done to serve the mission of B. H. Carroll. We will be forever indebted to them for their sacrificial service to the Lord. The convergence of these two moves—Bruce announced his retirement at the end of this month in January, and Norma accepted her new position to begin in July the first of this month—allows us to seek the Lord’s leadership as we enter a new season in our history. Just as God provided these two servant leaders for a season, so God will provide for the next one.
Please be in prayer for Bruce, Norma, and their families as they transition to their new assignments, and please pray for B. H. Carroll as we seek those who will serve in the next season of growth with the Lord. Embrace with me the promise that God works all things together for good to those who love him and are called according to his purpose.

Serving with you,
